Welcome Letter

Please join us for the 13th international conference of Near-field Optics and Nanophotonics (NFO), the premier platform for the latest advancements in nano-optics, near-field microscopy, plasmonics, metamaterials, quantum information, biosensing and ultrafast dynamics.

NFO has been held every second year since 1992 in locations around Europe, America, and Asia. The conference maintains a strong tradition of collaboration, collegiality and discovery, which NFO13 will continue with a variety of vibrant presentations and discussions for our scientific community.

NFO13 will be held August 31 – September 4, 2014 at Snowbird, a beautiful, world-renowned resort near Salt Lake City, Utah. Set in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain range, Salt Lake City is home to the University of Utah, a tier-one research and teaching institution ranking among the top 100 universities in the world. Showcasing large city amenities with the friendliness of a small college town, Salt Lake City offers unparalleled access to natural recreation with a robust economic climate fueling technological innovation.

We invite you to discover Utah’s breathtaking scenery, with thousands of kilometers of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, five national parks within the state (Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion) and two American gems—Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks—just a few hours away.

We hope the retreat atmosphere will stimulate new ideas, collaboration, and enjoyment. Join us at NFO13 and experience science and life in the mountains!

Jordan Gerton, NFO13 Chair (University of Utah)
Markus Raschke, NFO13 Co-Chair (University of Colorado at Boulder)
Jim Schuck, NFO13 Co-Chair (Molecular Foundry, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory)
